Onrus is a treasure trove of natural beauty and local charm. One of the first places I recommend visiting is the Onrus Beach itself. It’s a wide, sandy stretch that’s ideal for long walks, building sandcastles, or simply soaking up the sun. The gentle waves make it safe for kids to splash around, and the beach is often less crowded than other nearby spots, giving you plenty of space to relax.
Just a short stroll from the beach, you’ll find Davies Pool. There you can have a cold plunge and a coffee on the beach. Local shops and cafes offer delightful treats and handmade crafts. I love popping into the small art galleries and meeting the friendly locals who are always happy to share stories about the area. Don’t miss the chance to eat at Milk restaurant their food and view are amazing!

What outdoor activities can you do in Onrus?
If you’re craving some outdoor fun, Onrus has plenty to offer. The area is perfect for hiking enthusiasts, with several trails winding through the nearby hills and coastal fynbos. One of my favourites is the Onrus Coastal Walking Trail, A paved, pet-friendly walkway runs along the coast near the onrus Caravan Park, passing the tidal pool.
For those who enjoy water sports, the calm waters of the Onrus River are ideal for kayaking and paddleboarding. Renting a kayak is a fantastic way to explore the estuary and get close to nature. I remember gliding silently along the water, spotting fish and birds, feeling completely at peace.
Fishing is another popular pastime here. Whether you’re casting a line from the shore or joining a local fishing charter, the waters around Onrus are rich with fish species. It’s a relaxing way to spend a morning or afternoon, and the kids will love the excitement of catching their first fish.
